MONTHLY MEETING NOTICE

OCTOBER MEETING
Tuesday, October 17; 2000

TOUR: Television Station WGBY/57, 44 Hampden St., Springfield, MA

DINNER: Storrowton Tavern, West Springfield, MA

TIMES: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.-Tour
                 6:00 - 6:30 Social period at Storrowton
                 6:30 Dinner

FARE: $17.00, includes tax and tip; also part will be used
toward funding our annual scholarship.

PROGRAM: This tour of the TV studio facility will include. viewing "high definition" digital broadcasts from their new transmitter '

Because their conversion to digital has only just started, most of this tour will deal with analog equipment, which by no means is outdated. The tour will also include an explanation o£ how and when their conversions will take place and a brief description of what the television world of the future 'will look like.

DIRECTIONS: Hampden Street is a one-way street, running from Main Street to East Columbus Avenue. The studio is the last building on the right on Hampden Street. Parking is at the corner of Hampden and East Columbus on the right

FUTURE CITY COMPETITIONTM

The Engineering Society of Western Massachusetts (ESWM) and the Western Massachusetts Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (WMS/ASME) have been selected by the National Engineers' Week Future City Competition TM Committee to run the Massachusetts Pioneer Valley Future City Competition TM (MPVFCC). Plans are being made to have a contest at Western New England College  (WNEC) in the future.   The competition will be open to teams of  7th and 8th grade students in Massachusetts and Northern & Central Connecticut . RESULTS OF JANUARY 23th ,1999 COMPETITION AT WNEC  WINNERS OF COMPETITION 

The Power Mill School of Southwick, MA, being the local winner received a free trip to Washington, D.C., along with thirteen other winners of local competitions to participate in the National Finals held on Feb. 21-24, 1999. The top five National winners were Philadelphia, Buffalo, Milwaukee, Michigan and St Louis.
